January 4th Evening
Another day. Jake still alive and comfortable. I would say the worst day in my life so far and unfortunately the facts are that without a miracle I will probably have worse. Today we started making final arrangements for Jake. It was a incredibly indescribable task but we have sorted most of the details out. We went with Jakes wishes and what felt right which is coincidentally the same. Jake wants cremation. We will then distribute his ashes among the areas in his town that he liked to frequent, most prominently the beach. We will also have a plauqe or some other type of public memorial that can be displayed in his town. Jake would rather that money spent on him makes us feel better and closer to him. He also would rather have the money benefit the city of Encinitas and/or Carlsbad or the children therein instead of a morturary or cemetary. For us, although we will be giving his ashes to God and returning him to the Earth, we all like the idea of parts of his being remaining in the spaces he frequented. It will be good to know that Jake is so close though so far. We also agree that there will be a certain amount of pleasure in burning the tumors in his head to smithereens.

Dear Dan
I am Dr Bakshi, the radiologist who did the MRI scans of Jake whilst he was in Ludhiana in India. I have been following your blog faithfully and all I can say is Jake is blessed to have a father like you. As for the rest it happens in a way god has already ordained and you have set an example as to how to accept it with dignity.
Regards

We are all blessed to have Jake in our lives, that is a miracle unto itself.
Love Aunt Terry
My prayers go out to Jake and his loving family. May God be with each of every one of you today and forever.
I love you
Faith is when you believe in God's love when you are angry at the injustice of the world. Jake's Faith has changed my heart forever.
Jake has been blessed with a loving father like you. You did everything you know best but God's will always matters. Dan, God bless you always, my prayers are with you.
I do not know you and Jake but have been told of you both. I feel honored to witness your integrity and grit albeit through your blog. I know in my heart you are Jake's hero and he is yours. My thoughts and prayers are with you and your family at this time.
Dan,
you have fought with more faith and strength than any man I've ever seen. God allows all things for a reason, and there is where, again, faith comes in. We may not ever find the reason why we go through what we do, but if we always look for the reason, then positive growth begins and healing as well. We will see Jake again, and will rejoice.
Those that have been with Dan the past two years have watched in awe at his love for Jake as this battle has evolved. We all wonder how much one individual can take, but he fights forward with unparalleled courage, even through these difficult days. As his pain cuts deeper in the coming days and weeks, I along with so many of you hope that time begins to heal his wounds.

Dear Daniel, We are sorry to read of the events that have occured. You as a father and Jake as a patient and a teenager are both examplary. There are things that are beyond human control - God also requires good people in his kingdom and his order prevails otherwise how can we explain many things in life - how many good people like Jake suffer or get ill, and what you wrote - that Jakes medical record got mixup to the extent that at the critical time it could not be known who was Jake's Dr - an unfortunate unnecessary disaster and a mistake where you dont get second chances. I can only say God wanted to have a good person and he has his ways to do it. We all feel saddened at the turn of events, you are in our thoughts and we are with you. - Dr.Sibia
